KutinSoft Reboot Service is a freeware for keeping control over your server or working station. It was designed in order to reboot a server distantly by your own wish or in case of memory overflow.
General Reboot Service potential includes:
- Capacity to follow use of a computer memory as well as to reboot a computer in case of memory overflow error;
- Possibility to lay away piece of memory upon start of a computer, which helps to execute foolproof reboot;
- Possibility to be managed remotely by a browser.
-
Capacity to protect a session of remote management from interception by means of the following options:
- To listen to any port.
- To set name and password of any complexity for remote user identification.
- To provide safety for server during a session of distant management owing to channel encryption with Secure Sockets Layer technology.
This service can be set both by means of settings file and graphic client.
The program client can control all characteristics of service settings as well as has extra options for stress testing of your server stability:
- Consume memory - a client tries to capture all computer memory accessible to a program. Reboot Service Client is compiled in 32-bit kernel model and therefore can not allocate more than 2 GB of virtual memory.
-
Consume processor - there will be started 64 background threads either of each occupies entirely processor time given to it. In that way one client can consume 64 virtual processors.
There are settings which are configured by the client of the Reboot Service:
Behaviour section:
Disable Shutdown - to take the service functions "Reboot" and "Shutdown" off.
The service will be active and respond to various directives but it will not be operating by a computer.
Service Start section:
It is well-known fact that there is need to have some more memory to proper end of computer working. However, if there is no memory anymore, then the end of computer working can be too long and mistaken down to impossibility to finish its work without Reset keystroke.
Reserve this number of bytes at service start - it can reserve piece of memory under service start, but for all that the memory will be released before the end of computer working.
This option allows to greatly decrease the probability of computer suspension under the end of computer working on condition of memory overflow.
Memory Overflow section:
Reboot on memory overflow - to reboot a computer when memory overflow is discovered. It allows to automatically reboot a computer providing its actions round the clock without human intervention.
Bytes to allocate - how much of memory is needed to discover memory overflow. Service will try to allocate indicated quantity of memory, and reboot a computer in case of failure to do it because of memory overflow.
Check interval milliseconds - how many times per milliseconds there is necessity to check the availability of free memory. It would be better to set this characteristic within the limits from 10000 to 30000 milliseconds according to your conditions.
Remote Control section:
Enable remote control - to activate option of remote management. Inserted web server will be activated with possibility to remote connection with the help of any browser.
Port to listen to - it is any free port, and replacement a port to another one. It allows to complicate the search of service for a possible ill-intensioned people.
Do not forget to open selected port to the server firewall.
User name - name of user, which will be able to authorize himself/herself in the service. For the convenience of creating some complicated name, it is possible to use "Generate" button.
User password - the password of user. We recommend to use complicated password for greater safety. For your convenience the client allows to create complicated password with the "Generate" keystroke.
Use SSL - it activates the safe session mode of remote management. It allows to avoid interception of data which are transmitting between service and browser. For the convenience the service already has predetermined 2048-bit server certificate for safe remote management.
But modern browsers will give notice you right that the certificate was given by unknown source. For greater confidence you can create new certificate, for example, with the help of SSL Buddy, or purchase the certificate signed by well-known source.
At purchasing/creating of a certificate pay attention to the fact whether the distant reboot service was created on the basis of Indy HTTP Server component. In other words, your certificate must be designed to sign the server answers, and be composed of three files: .pem, .cer, .key.
In that way the position of files in a computer must be shown in the following way:
.pem - root certificate file;
.cer - server certificate file;
.key - server key file.
The web pages models are in a catalogue indicated in Page templates folder.
