  1. What the hard links are?
Hard links are the feature of Microsoft New Technology File System. Hard links are additional links to files. In other words, using the hard link technology lets to see the file in several catalogues simultaneously but it is the same file in actual fact.
  2. How Same Files Assistant finds the files which are linked to each other, and recognizes their names?
NTFS keeps the same files' identificator for all files linked between each other. Therefore, if to scan the whole disk and to put all identificators together, then we can know which file had linked to each other. Since the scanning of the whole disk is a very long process, Same Files Assistant does not scan it every time. It just keeps the base of files' identificators and pathways which are linked with them. As soon as new file appears on the disk under Same Files Assistant supervision, then our program checks this file. If number of references to it is more than one, its name will be added to the base.
  3. Why Same Files Assistant Scheduler is in the system tray and why it begins its work under start of a computer?
Same Files Assistant Scheduler is needed for searching appearance of new hard links in the real time, that is why it has to be working constantly. Also, it acts like a small bridge which relates Explorer's context menu with Same Files Assistant Robot.
  4. What is Same Files Assistant Robot? Why I observe it in the running processes list?
It is the very program which is processing demands from Explorer, for example, the demand to create new hard link. As soon as Same Files Assistant Robot will have completed the task laid on it, then it will be closed automatically. If Same Files Assistant Robot is in the process list but you did not start it, then probably it was started automatically with Same Files Assistant Scheduler for checking either the newly created files have hard links or not.
  5. Why Same Files Assistant began scanning of the whole disk when I tried to create new hard link?
Possibly, the database of Same Files Assistant was damaged for some external reasons. Same Files Assistant automatically restores damaged database, but for to do that it has to make scanning of the disk beforehand.
  6. Why Same Files Assistant can show that it does not know with whom my newly created hard link related?
Possibly, this hard link was blocked with some program when Same Files Assistant was trying to check it. Another possible reason is that Same Files Assistant Scheduler was not working at the time this hardlink was being created, or there was disabled the function of watching at the disk where this hard link is. To correct situation you can run Same Files Assistant Wizard and make scan procedure of the disk: choose menu item "make new hardlinks", and then choose menu item "scan these directories for same files". Just close Same Files Assistant Wizard without addition of any hard links when Same Files Assistant Wizard will have scanned the disk. Database of hard links will be renewed.
  7. How can I use Same Files Assistant more?
You can scan the folder where you keep your program distributives, and create hard links between same files on the scan results. According to statistics, about 10% of files on disks are the same and repeated files. Same Files Assistant can help you do not waste your disk for repeated data.
